Unthanked!
Dear Father
I write to you today to appreciate you for the many times you have gone unthanked
I am often so grateful for the nine months in my mother’s womb,
that I hardly see your daily grooming just in your room
Through the eyes of mum, I see the beautiful landscape of life
But through your eyes, I see the steep hills that must be conquered to thrive
Mum nurtures me with love and care, so I am kind and not haughty
But you raise me with your firm hand of untainted truth, so I am wise and not naïve
And so, I write to you today to appreciate you for the many times you have gone unthanked
Dear Father
You taught me the folly of rage and the wisdom of courage
You taught me to value others and to treat all people with respect
For true character is known by the way one treats those not needed at the moment
You taught me that one penny earned is more valuable than a thousand pounds found
You taught me that failure and defeat are as valuable as success and victory
For there can be glory in failure if well understood and despair in success if misunderstood
And so, I write to you today to appreciate you for the many times you have gone unthanked
Dear Father
Through your eyes, I have found myself
Through your smile, I have confidence in my ideas
Through your hugs, I see no shame in tears
Through your walks, I understand the values of long-term planning
Through your runs, I have gained insight into the strength of perseverance
Through your sit-downs, I see the priceless imparts of meditation and deep thought
Through your laughter, I understand to take life seriously but not take myself too seriously
And so, I write to you today to appreciate you for the many times you have gone unthanked
Dear Father
Because of you, I know that I can be quiet, but I shall not be timid
I must be respectful, but I shall not be afraid
I may be pressured on every side, but I shall not be overwhelmed
I should be content, but I will not be satisfied with mediocrity
I may be restless not and again, but I will not be unsettled
I may be tired, but I shall remain resilient
At times, I may be deprived, but I would not be depressed
Cast down many times, but I will not be downcast
These I know because of you
And so, I write to you today to appreciate you for the many times you have gone unthanked
Dear Father, Thank you!
